Rabbiah "Robbie" Sabbakhan currently serves as the Chief Building Official for the District of Columbia, overseeing implementation and enforcement of the District's Construction Codes, including permitting, inspections and property maintenance. Previously, he served as Deputy Chief of DCRA's Permitting Operations Division overseeing day to day functions of Technical Plan Review and the Permit Center.
Mr. Sabbakhan has over 15 years of construction experience in both Codes Compliance and Management including 12 with the City of Richmond, Virginia where he developed and oversaw the Special Inspections or critical structures program. In fact, he played an integral role, from permit issuance through certificate of occupancy, in all of Richmond’s most recent high profile development projects including the Philip Morris Research & Technology Center & other biotech facilities, the new Convention Center, new pedestrian mall, new residential & mixed-use high rise, dormitories, gymnasiums and other university buildings, new elementary schools plus major adaptive reuse development projects.
Mr. Sabbakhan holds a BS in architecture from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
