Exam Results and Applicant Ranking
There were 3,774 applicants who took the exam and passed. The highest passing exam score was 99.24. The lowest passing exam score was 72.34. The average passing exam score was 92.26. The entrance examination score was counted as 70% of Total Points. Applicants who claimed District Residency preference received 10 additional points. 1,349 (or 36% of applicants) claimed this preference. Applicants who claimed Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) Foster Care Program preference received 10 additional points. 22 (or less than 1% of applicants) claimed this preference. Applicants who claimed Veterans preference received 10 additional points. 138 (or 4% of applicants) claimed this preference. Total Points were calculated by adding the weighted exam score (70%) and each preference point category (10% each). Information concerning preference points can be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of this page and clicking on the identified link. Total Points were ranked highest to lowest, creating a Total Points Ranking. Ties were broken by first applying District Residency preference, then by sorting application numbers in descending order. For example, if four applicants had identical point totals, but two claimed residency preference, the applicant claiming residency preference with the higher application number would be ranked first, the applicant claiming residency preference with the lower application number would be ranked second, the applicant not claiming residency preference with the higher application number would be ranked third and the applicant not claiming residency preference with the lower application number would be ranked fourth. Beginning on October 30, 2015 each applicant who participated in the Entrance Examination will be e-mailed their ranking score. This “registry” of applicants will be used until at least June 27, 2017 or until it is exhausted. Updates to the registry are detailed below.

Employment Suitability Assessment
During the months of November and December, 2015, the DCFEMS Recruiting Officer will begin individually contacting applicants concerning their applications. Currently, the Department anticipates a class of 30 Firefighter-EMT Recruits to begin training in early 2016. Each applicant will be required to submit documents and other information as part of the employment suitability assessment process. If you claimed an employment preference as part of your application, you will also be required to submit documents and other information supporting your claim as required by District Law and Personnel Regulations. If applicants cannot meet suitability requirements, they may be eliminated from consideration for hiring and removed from the registry. A conditional offer of employment will not be made to an applicant until all suitability requirements are met. Moving forward from January 2016, the Department will continue to contact applicants listed on this registry for employment suitability assessment processing (as needed) until the registry expires or is exhausted. More detailed information concerning employment suitability, required documents and other information will be provided to applicants when contacted by the DCFEMS Recruiting Officer. Other information concerning employment suitability can be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of this page and clicking on the identified link.
