American Job Center – Northeast Closed Due to Power Outage

(Washington, DC) – Today, the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES) announced that due to an area power outage, the American Job Center – Northeast Bertie Backus Campus, located at 5171 South Dakota Avenue, NE, Washington, DC 20017 is closed.

The Center will reopen tomorrow, Thursday, March 2 and resume normal hours of operation. Customers are encouraged to visit one of the three other American Job Centers located throughout the District, call the DOES Navigation Call Center at (202) 724-7000 or visit the DOES website does.dc.gov for additional Center locations, and information on DOES programs and services.

The Department of Employment Services (DOES) is the District’s lead labor, workforce development agency, and responsible for providing District residents with critical employment readiness and job training services, and District businesses with a qualified pool of potential employees. The agency oversees the Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program, Project Empowerment, L.E.A.P., Career Connections, and additional supportive programs for veterans and older workers. The DOES-managed American Job Centers provide job seekers with counseling, resume assistance, job placement, vocational training, access to online services, information about local and national labor markets, unemployment insurance, and other employment services. Dislocated workers may file for unemployment insurance at an American Job Center.
