(WASHINGTON, DC) Mayor Vincent C. Gray, in partnership with the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) and the DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR), will host Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s 2014 Citywide Hiring Fair on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Job seekers will have the opportunity to visit with a wide array of DC area employers and government agencies to learn about their organizations, connect face-to-face with employers who are hiring, find out about current and upcoming job vacancies, and apply on-the-spot for open positions for which they qualify.
“Over the past three years, the District has seen a dramatic decrease in its unemployment rate – from a high of 11.1 percent in September 2011 when we launched One City • One Hire to 7.4 percent in June 2014. I am very pleased with the strides we’ve made to put people back to work, but there is still a great deal more work that needs to be done,” Mayor Gray said. “I am excited that we continue to have so many employers eager to partner with us to help the residents of the District find meaningful, sustainable employment, but I won’t be satisfied until every District resident who wants a job is given a fair shot at finding a job, and I will continue to make this one of my top priorities.”
Over two dozen DC government agencies and nearly 100 private sector employers are expected to attend from a variety of industries, including health care, business, hospitality/guest services, food services, maintenance, retail, and many more. In addition, DCHR will conduct several workshops highlighting important topics such as resume writing, business etiquette, interview skills, and ranking factor responses for District government job openings.
“DOES is committed to helping improve the lives and economic opportunities of our DC residents, and there is no better way to do so that than to help connect residents to meaningful, sustainable jobs,” added DOES Acting Director Tom Luparello. “Mayor Gray’s 2014 Citywide Hiring Fair will enable hundreds of job seekers to reach that goal.”
Attendees seeking employment are urged to come prepared, dressed in professional or business casual attire, and to bring plenty of resumes to distribute. Participation in the hiring event is free of charge and open to all DC residents.
