One City One Hire is an innovative economic development strategy that serves as a catalyst to jump-start the Mayor's pledge to put all unemployed District residents--in every Ward of the city--back to work.
Youth Connection Center
The Youth Connection Center (YCC) has an extensive application process that determines a youth’s eligibility for every Office of Youth program and service. This universal application gives the Youth Resource Specialist a snapshot of the youth’s education, skill set, work experience, knowledge, training and their needs that allows them to better serve the youth.
The youth participate in a step by step process:
- Identify
- Assess
- Educate/Train/Refer
- Connect
- Follow-up
- Exit
Through this process, youth will have the skills and support of the YCC to accomplish their long-term goals.
A youth can take advantage of the YCC services at their own pace in a self-service capacity or they can work with a Youth Resource Specialist to receive intensive services that are more intense and focused on that youth’s particular needs.
Youth will also receive information and services pertaining to the following:
- Career Exploration
- Short- and Long-Term Goal Assessment
- Skills Training
- Career Fairs
- Supportive Services
- Various Career and Life Skills Workshops
- Academic Remediation Services
Through the Youth Connection Center's six-step process a “Connection” to Post-Secondary Education, Vocational Training/Apprenticeships, Job Corp, Immediate Employment, or the Military is inevitable.
