(Washington, DC) – The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES) announced that the application process for the 2016 Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) will conclude on Saturday to coincide their March Madness Certification Event. The event will be held at DOES, located at 4058 Minnesota Avenue, NE on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Youth may apply online for MBSYEP 2016 at www.summerjobs.dc.gov. The program will provide six weeks of meaningful employment and work-readiness training to District residents ages 14-24 this summer.
On February 24, Mayor Bowser announced the opening of this year’s application process at H.D. Woodson Senior High School. Applications are being processed on a first-come, first served basis and certification events have been held across the District where applicants must present required documentation to become eligible for job placement. Saturday’s March Madness event is the last opportunity for applicants to become certified for summer work.
“Ensuring that all youth in the District are prepared to compete in the District’s thriving economy is a high priority for DOES,” said Director Deborah Carroll. “By providing them an opportunity to gain solid work experience and receive effective training that can lead to good jobs with good wages, DOES is committed to preparing our next generation for success in the 21st century.”
MBSYEP 2016 will begin on Monday, June 27, 2016 and will end on Friday, August 5, 2016.
