Unemployment Insurance Claims will be processed online

(Washington, DC) – The DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) will process initial unemployment claims duringthe federal government shutdown. Federal government employees who are furloughed during the shutdown, along with other individuals receiving or applying for unemployment benefits, will have their claims processed.Federal workers who did not work in the District of Columbia (or whose duty stations were not located within the District of Columbia) between April 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013, cannot file unemployment insurance claims in the District of Columbia and must contact the State where they worked during this period to file unemployment claims.

In order to meet the increased demand, initial applications will ONLY be accepted online. Weekly certifications will be accepted by phone or online. Individuals who fail to file their initial claim ONLINE could be subject to delays in benefit processing.
