Washington, DC – On Monday, November 5, 2012, fifty-three (53) unemployed District residents were hired, thrity-three (33) of whom were unemployed Veterans, during Veterans Path2Work: A One City • One Hire Event hosted by the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES).  Over one-hundred (100) Veterans attended the event, held at the Kellogg Conference Hotel at Gallaudet University.

Participating One City • One Hire employer partners included Securitas Security Services, MV Transportation, Inc., The Dupont Circle Hotel, and Evolver, Inc.  District Government agencies, including the Department of Human Services, the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, and the Department of General Services also participated by interviewing candidates and offering contingent hiring offers. Veterans also participated in a workshop on financial literacy.
“I am pleased with the outcome of Veterans Path2Work,” said DOES Director Lisa María Mallory. “I cannot think of a better way to honor our Veterans than by helping them to transition back into the workforce and assisting them with finding sustainable employment.”
Veterans Path2Work also included inspirational remarks from Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Major General Errol R. Schwartz of the District of Columbia National Guard, Matthew Cary, Director of the Office of Veterans Affairs, Dennis O. May of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and Deputy Assistant Secretary John K. Moran of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans Employment and Training Service.
DOES is committed to serving District Veterans by hosting events, similar to Veterans Path2Work, in addition to current Veterans programming.  Veterans seeking services should visit the American Job Center for U.S. Veterans located at 1722 I Street, NW, Room 335, Washington, DC 20006. In addition, special Veterans representatives are also located at other American Job Centers in the District.  A list of those centers is located on the DOES website.
About One City • One Hire:
In September 2011, Mayor Vincent C. Gray launched an ambitious, hiring initiative entitled One City • One Hire, which simply asks area employers to hire one unemployed District resident.  To date, One City • One Hire has partnered with over 850 employers to place over 5,000 residents in jobs.  DOES provides screenings, trainings, and other services to facilitate these matchings at no cost to the employer or job seeker.
About Path2Work:
