Career Ready Early Scholars Program

Eligibility:
 
District Youth  
Ages: 9 – 13  
Youth must be 9 years of age by September 30, 2024
 
Programming runs for 3 - week increments starting June 24, 2024 through August 2, 2024
 
The Department of Employment Services' Career Ready Early Scholars Program is an exceptional opportunity open to all middle school students who reside in the District to engage in comprehensive career exploration. In 2023, the program expanded to youth ages 9-13. This program provides a diverse hands-on experience for all participants in the areas of:
  • Athletics
  • Business
  • Law and World/Global Affairs
  • Culinary Arts
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Engineering and Design
  • Language Arts
  • STEM
  • Social Science and Culture/Humanities
  • Visual and Performance Arts
  • Public Speaking

Dramatic Solutions, Inc.
This partnership with Dramatic Solutions, Inc. and the Department of Employment Services invites students to participate in the Master Series of our Signature- "Career Exploration through Dramatic Arts" with a focus on social and emotional development and financial literacy. This trauma-informed care model is consistent with ensuring that participants are exposed to basic career competencies, and soft skills. This unique experience will build confidence and start youth on a pathway to understanding what careers are available to them.

Chart Academy  
The Chart Academy Program provides career exploration in the Arts, Athletics, STEM and Public Safety. Youth attend field trips and excursions across the DMV area exposing them to the various careers. Giving students the chance to explore careers ultimately illuminates new pathways, inspires the next generation of innovators, and provides exposure to careers that exist within their own city.

Carolina Canyon Co.  
The Carolina Canyon Co. Summer Exploration Camp is a comprehensive, Three-week program aimed at fostering holistic growth in Washington D.C. youth. Incorporating a wide range of disciplines such as athletics, business, STEM, arts, and trauma training, the program broadens students' perspectives, builds resilience, and encourages personal growth. Field trips to significant cultural and civic institutions will enhance civic awareness. Ultimately, our program seeks to inspire passion, bolster self-confidence, and cultivate a sense of community among students, thereby indirectly contributing to the reduction of crime rates by providing constructive engagement and fostering positive personal development.

The College Gurl Foundation (CGF) in partnership with DOES Office of Youth Programs (OYP) will conduct an innovative life-changing summer program for DC residents ages 9-13 that will empower them to dream bigger than their zip code to become the next future leaders of tomorrow. CGF is the ultimate guide and go-to resource, providing valuable information, activities, cultural experiences, resources, and mentorship that will help participants excel academically, socially, and personally. From navigating the seas of student success, unlocking participants talents, and fostering mental well-being, CGF is the trusted friend every participant needs as we empower and inspire participants which will make Summer of 2024 an unforgettable experience!

The Capital Youth Empowerment Program
The CYEP STEM: Think Like an Engineer is a 3-week program that provides students with soft and technical skills training opportunities and explores STEM career pathways at the Raymond Rec Center in NW Washington DC. This enrichment program aims to enhance teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills. The program will cover essential life skills, including financial literacy, the importance of networking, and leadership development.

Captivate Perspectives will provide a high-quality and engaging program. Quality People Solutions
Quality People Solutions provides a Pre-Teen 360 Professional Development Program focused on residents ages 10-13.. It is a cohort-focused program aiming to provide work readiness principles as well as personal and professional development training. This program is a pilot precursor for SYEP that will help lay the tracks for participants in their path to successful work and entrepreneurship experiences in the future.
