Safe Workplace Program

Effective January 1, 2018…

The Department of Employment Services, Office of Workers’ Compensation (OWC), in partnership with the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB), and the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) has implemented the Safe Workplace Program. Therefore, OWC will be processing and certifying applications for approval for the Safe Workplace Program which will allow employers to receive a 5% reduction in workers’ compensation premiums. In order to receive certification, an employer must submit a completed, notarized application to the D.C. Office of Workers’ Compensation and a copy to the insurer. The request for certification must demonstrate that there is an active safety committee comprised of the equal union, where applicable, and employer representatives that has a written safety policy. There must be proof of the annual work inspection by a certified professional and written minutes of committee activity. An application and further detailed information may be obtained by contacting the D.C. Office of Workers’ Compensation located at 4058 Minnesota Avenue, NE, Suite 3500, Washington, D.C. 20019 or calling (202) 671‐ 1000.
