What is DataWorks
DataWorks is the DOES project that will improve, standardize, and modernize data management and data use practices at DOES to ensure that:
- Data are accurate, reliable, and maintained by high-quality systems
- Data are readily available and consistently used to make well-informed decisions
- Appropriate and accurate data are regular released to the public, improving transparency and confidence in DOES and our data
Why are We Doing This / Why is DataWorks Important?
- DOES has been unable to consistently provide accurate metrics and data in testimonies and reports.
- Data are siloed in separate systems with no common data standard and little to no integration.
- There is a consistent lack of business and technical documentation for most programs and data systems.
- There are no consistent policies or procedures that govern how DOES data are managed and/or used.
What are the Goals of DataWorks?
- Internal goals
- Establish a data governance program
- Perform a comprehensive data gap analysis
- Design a master data architecture
- Create a data warehouse for all DOES data assets
- Develop a front-end application to the data warehouse to allow staff to quickly access all workforce data and monitor program status in real-time
- External goals
- Create a public portal to help residents make more informed decisions about workforce opportunities
- Improve interagency data integration
How Long Will It Take to Realize the DataWorks Goals?
The DataWorks Project will be complete by the end of FY23. The agency will work to have a data management group to support CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous deployment), including additional dashboards, scorecards, and performance reporting. An ongoing effort to advance data literacy for employees, customers, and other stakeholders will be established as part of our Data Governance Strategy.
