Notice of Funding Availability for Paid Family Leave Research Opportunity

DOES is making available up to $400,000 to outside organizations to conduct research and analysis about DC Paid Family Leave and its impacts on the District. Organizations with outstanding research experience in paid family leave, labor economics, social insurance programs, or related topics are encouraged to apply. The agency will work with grantees to identify program data necessary to answer pertinent research questions. Applicants should specify proposed research topics in their application, to apply for any of the DOES grants click here. Topics of special interest to DOES include, but are not limited to:

  • The economic and social impacts of the DC PFL program, such as job creation, labor force participation, family economic security, and public health outcomes
  • Employment and career outcomes of PFL claimants
  • Qualitative and quantitative research studying the impacts of PFL on BIPOC’s (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color)
  • The effect of the PFL program on the well-being of newborns, parents, and recipients of care
  • The effect of the public DC PFL program on the overall availability of paid leave to the District workforce
  • The effect of PFL on businesses: profitability, employee retention, relocation choices, and other outcomes
